FEATURED MEMBERS:
This Month We Feature Spencer Pyne, James Robinson, and Joy Iwancio
Spencer Pyne says: I am primarily a bassist with 55 years of experience. I came to Colorado from New York on a scholarship to the DU Lamont School of Music when I was 18 and never went back. Colorado has been my home ever since.
Spencer is based out of Denver and, when he is not out playing, he runs a small project studio out of his home called ESP Recording. Spencer is adept at Country, Rock, Jazz, Blues, but is not a songwriter, preferring to xxx covers.
Spencer is a member of The John Adams Band which performs a tribute show of John Denver’s music. They did a tour of The Netherlands and Belgium and played a sold out show at the DU Newman Center in 2022.
He is a member of Close ‘n Counter which is an instrumental guitar trio, with Gordon Close and Richard Blanchard. We play local concerts as well as Senior Living Centers throughout the Denver metro area. He also is a member of Eddy Roswell and Phantom Ranch which performs original music of the Southwest written by Nashville veteran Ed Skibbe. They are mostly a recording band these days with the occasional live performance in Denver or Phoenix.
Spencer is the backup bassist for Shelvis and the Roustabouts, Soda Blue, and Steve Edmonson. Shelvis and the Roustabouts does an oldies show featuring songs of Elvis Presley and many other classic rock artists; Soda Blue is a also a Classic Rock band founded by David Fermanich and Alice Frish; and Steve Edmonson, a blues focused singer/songwriter, who was one of two local blues artists to make it to the finals of the International Blues Challenge in Memphis this past January.

Multi-Faceted Guitarist James Robinson
James is based out of Wheat Ridge, Colorado. He says he is the 12th of 13 children! Silicon Valley raised virtuoso James Robinson who was blessed to have the guitarisma in his DNA, with six of his eight brothers playing guitar and offering him a wide array of inspirations and access to top instructors from an early age.
Legendary three-time Grammy winning hard rock/metal maestro Steve Vai once gushed of Robinson’s multi-faceted talents for Latin, World, Jazz, Flamenco, Middle Eastern, Rock, “He’s phenomenal,” and he should know. Vai signed him to his Favoured Nations Acoustic label for the release of Colours in 2005. Larry Carlton expressed “James is an extraordinary talent that deserves to be heard.”
Over 15 years later, Robinson quite literally marked New Beginnings with his deeply intricate yet infectiously melodic, playfully grooving and accessible debut for Innervision, The generous 14 track set (which includes three unique, rhythmically shifting three-movement tracks, “Cascal,” “New Beginnings” and “Bronze”) is a flamenco fans’ romantic dreamscape, full of speedy runs, easy loping mid-tempo tender mercies, spirited strumming, snappy percussive fire and – saving perhaps the most intricate expression for last on “Sophia” – gently lilting balladry.
Vai said of New Beginnings, “He is sounding just phenomenal on this record and his chops, tone, note choice, phrasing are all quite stellar.” But don’t take Steve and Larry’s word for it – experience these transcendent New Beginnings for yourself!” ~ Jonathan Widran at JWVibe.com
