Photo: Ralph Yarl | COMBO Editor’s note: We’ve listed several articles on this matter but won’t reprint the whole of them. To summarize, 16 year old Ralph Yarl, an Honor’s Student, member of his high school bands, playing bass clarinet, and more “well behaved young person” was asked by his parents to pick up his 11 year old twin brothers from a friend’s house. Ralph, who had left his cell phone at home but thought he remembered the address, was shot TWICE when he rang the doorbell of a house he thought was the friend’s. After a few seconds, the inside door opened and the home-owner fired his gun at Ralph through the glass outer-door, hitting Ralph in the head and in his right arm. No words were spoken, no warning given, no chance for Ralph to apologize and say, “Oh, I’m sorry. I must have the wrong house.”

Sadly, the home-owner is an 84 year old man who expressed fear at a “Big Black MAN” standing at his door and thought he was going to be robbed – never mind that every photo published of Ralph shows him definitely being a “kid” – 5’8″ tall, 140 lbs.

This whole story reeks of the Elijah McClain issue – which has yet to be resolved and justice served. Let’s hope it doesn’t take as long to settle the Ralph Yarl incident. Our musicians deserve better.

Ralph Yarl Protests as Black Teen Shot After Turning Up at Wrong Address

By Khaleda Rahman, MSN

Protesters gathered in Kansas City, Missouri, to demand the arrest and prosecution of a homeowner who shot a Black teenager who rang his doorbell.

The 16-year-old boy, identified by family members as Ralph Yarl, was hospitalized on Thursday night after mistakenly turning up at the wrong address while going to pick up his younger twin brothers, according to a GoFundMe page set up by his aunt, Faith Spoonmore, on Sunday.
. . .
Yarl got up and ran, but had to ask at three different homes before someone agreed to help “after he was told to lie on the ground with his hands up,” Spoonmore wrote.
