AirShow Mastering says: We’ve reported on every Grateful Dead 50th anniversary as they have come along, and enjoyed revisiting the music with new ears and modern gear. Before the momentous Europe ’72 tour, Bob Weir booked time at Wally Heider’s studio, and the rest of the Grateful Dead (minus Pigpen) joined as his backing band. The result, “Ace,” captures some of the songs that still live in the Dead performance repertoire, like “Playing In The Band” and “Greatest Story Ever Told.” The album also marks the beginning of Weir’s lifelong collaboration with John Perry Barlow (1947-2018).

For this 50th anniversary release, the album was remixed by Derek Featherstone of UltraSound, and is paired with a bonus disc of live versions of the album’s tracks performed by Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros. in April at Radio City Music Hall.

David [Glasser of Boulder’s AirShow Mastering] mastered the project which was produced by Bob Weir, Derek, and Don Was.

Pearl vinyl release is limited to 5,000 copies; that and other versions can be ordered here.
