Photo: Chris Maunu | SHOUT OUTS to David Barber and Chris Maunu! David is COMBO’s webmaster, and he took over doing the newsletter for “the editor” while she was gone on vacation! Thank you so much, David, for carrying on the work of our terrific organization! Chris was nominated for the Grammys “Educator of the Year Award” but missed it again. Chris is the choir director for Arvada West High School. Congratulations, Chris. Top 10 is still mighty good!

Barb was reminded of all the ways songwriters & musicians can earn royalties while she was on a cruise – there was music everywhere! All genres of music were being played in the halls, in the bars, the restaurants, and in the fun areas like the swimming pools and the pickle ball court. There were concert videos shown every day of the week on the “big screen” – bands like Hall & Oates – Live in Dublin; Journey (with Arnel Pineda); UB40; The Rolling Stones: Havana Moon – Live in Cuba; Mumford & Sons: Live from South Africa – Dust & Thunder. There were live bands at the pool and in the nightclubs and commons areas as well as solo musicians (they loved their steel drum guys) in the meeting areas. Of course, there were the live theater shows presenting Broadway and Born to be Wild, and tributes to Nat King Cole, Elton John and The Beatles (you couldn’t help but sing along to these shows!) I’m thinking the cruise lines pay millions in royalties for the use of these songs so get to working on that ONE HIT WONDER that will support you for the rest of your life!

April is Earth Month, and one way to celebrate and preserve the Earth is by making small changes in your everyday life. Parents can make a difference by teaching their children, the next generation of sustainability experts, to respect and care for the Earth. Recycling and composting are just a few sustainable practices that you can implement in your home today!

Is a used pizza box recyclable? Do eggshells go in the trash or compost bin? Not sure where to begin? Play the waste game with your family and learn about our recycling and composting program together! | https://denver.recycle.game/
