First off, I wanted to thank you again for coming out to see me at UMS last year. It was a real treat to meet you. I’ve take a bit of a hiatus from playing lately, but am getting involved in some new projects I think you may find interesting.
I’m incredibly excited to be working with #WomenCrush Music, a non profit organization that works with rising women songwriters by hosting showcases, workshops & networking events in now 12 chapters, and 15 cities across the country.
Yesterday we announced the official launch of our Denver/Boulder Chapter with myself as Chapter Leader. Our first showcase will take place on Sunday, October 14th at Mercury Cafe and will feature Denver artists Sassfactory, Sister Neapolitan, and Mirrors & Lights.
I’d love it if you could help support us by sharing the news or attending the event! I’ve attached a press release below with more information for your reference.
Best,
Britt
#WomenCrush Music Launches New Chapter in Denver, Colorado
Denver, CO (September 25th, 2018)? – #WomenCrush Music launches their Denver Chapter with an October Showcase featuring a stacked line-up. The showcase will take place on Sunday,
October 4th, at Mercury Cafe. Local Denver artists Sassfactory, Sister Neapolitan, and Mirrors & Lights, will perform.
#WomenCrush Music’s mission
#WomenCrush Music’s mission is to connect, educate, and inspire rising women songwriters
through showcases and workshops, in a way that is inexpensive and accessible to the community.
The team could not be more excited to bring this initiative to the Denver/Boulder area, especially with new Chapter Leader, Britt Margit.
“I always wished I had known more about the music business before I got in too deep. I was lucky enough to find mentorsin my school, but there were certain issues I encountered that they
couldn’t understand as men. After everything I went through, I wanted to ensure that no woman
ever had to do the same. When I came across #WomenCrush, I knew I found the right platform to better foster the community of female songwriters in Denver & Boulder.”
The launch of the Denver/Boulder Chapter also marks an expansion for #WCM; Founder Ashley
Kervabon notes the launch stating:
“I had heard so many great things about the Colorado music scene that when Britt approached us
about starting a chapter, I was over the moon. There is more and more talent popping up and the
enthusiasm we’ve already received from the media & industry members in Denver has been
amazing. I’m so grateful to have another city on board sharing our mission and I know that Britt
will do a great job in fostering a community to connect, educate & inspire!
About #WomenCrushMusic
In January 2017, Ashley Kervabon organized a live showcase to address the need for a stronger
community among women songwriters in Portland, OR. The event’s humble turnout but
overwhelmingly positive feedback struck a chord in Ashley. She quickly reached out to women in other cities, who also expressed the need for similar showcase series. Realizing this was an
industry-wide gap, Ashley knew it was time to make a change: and so #WomenCrush Music began.
Starting with Ashley’s hometown connections in NYC, #WomenCrush Music became a growing
vision for women artists and the music industry at large. As the organization expanded to
Nashville, and across borders to Vancouver BC, the #WomenCrush mission started attracting
artists from across the USA and beyond in search of both local performance opportunities as well as a more expansive network of like-minded ladies. By January 2018, #WomenCrush was present in 13 cities, cultivating communities through events designed to connect, educate, and inspire.
Since then, a Lenny Letter feature and big-name partnerships by the likes of SoFar Sounds have
established #WomenCrush Music as a powerful positive force in today’s music industry. Ashley,
her fellow team members, and a full board of directors look forward to the developments ahead in 2018 and 2019.
