Interesting Bits|

By Lauren Gordon, Parade | Though he may have written some of the most beloved tunes of the ’80s filled with hope and love, John Mellencamp, 73, has been known to harbor a bit of a short temper. The iconic performer does not hesitate to call out rowdy fans or walk off a stage if he is so inclined, and people have developed quite a love/hate relationship with it.

Recently Mellencamp was performing his hit song “Jack & Diane” and put the performance to a screeching halt after fans royally jumped the gun on the chorus.

“I guess, you guys must have been absent the day they taught English poetry,” he said as he stopped playing. “Songs are really simple. They have verses and choruses, and then they have a bridge. This particular song has two verses and then the chorus. You guys sang the first verse and said ‘[redacted] off’ to the second verse. ‘We’re going straight to the chorus.’

And I think the second verse is funny, so I’m gonna sing it anyway.”
