ABC (CHANNEL 7 – DENVER) STARTS NEW SINGING COMPETITION
Rising Star completely reinvents the traditional singing competition as – for the first time ever – the audience has the final say in real time. The show follows a group of aspiring singers as they audition in live performances. During the performances, viewers vote via an App in real time to determine if the singer will advance in the competition. If the voting reaches a certain threshold, the performer moves on, and the performer can see how the voting is going during the performance, so the feedback is immediate and dramatic.

[Editor’s note: Don’t confuse this with the privately-run “Rising Star” competition or talent agency on the net. Why ABC didn’t check out the name is beyond me. Feel free to enter the others if you want although there may be a “Buyer Beware” attached to these: http://www.risingstarcompetition.com or a talent agency: http://www.risingstartalent.com]

SAVING JULIET IS LOOKING FOR A FEMALE VOCALIST / FRONT PERSON
One of Denver’s top alternative rock bands, “Saving Juliet”, seeks an experienced female vocalist with the ability to take control of an audience. Of course, strong vocal abilities would be required, but we want to be able to really reach the audience and get them involved and moving.
Saving Juliet is currently comprised of two female vocalists and four backing musicians. The band can be seen and heard on Facebook, YouTube and at www.savingjulietband.com. Make no mistake about it, our two singers are downright fantastic and have beautiful, soulful voices. We seek a third female vocalist who is on par with their talents and can also lend a strong stage presence with the ability to move a crowd.
Is this a challenging task? Sure it is, but the potential rewards are there for this band and for you as well. The band has been regularly gigging at some pretty good clubs, but we want to play the best and be the best. This is where you come in and contribute. The opportunities seem to be getting bigger and better and we just need a little shot in the arm.
We cover over 40 songs of Grace Potter, Sheryl Crow, Florence and the Machine, Four Non Blondes and many others and are beginning to dabble in originals as well.
The band rehearses once a week and we try to gig once or twice a month. The following and success of this band continues to build and we are now looking for another vocalist and front person to move us firmly to the next level (dare I say the top?).
Musical backgrounds of all players are quite varied and our ages range from the late teens to the fifties.
If you can sing well, front a band and blend into an established band environment, you will probably fit just fine.
We strive to keep the drama as low as possible as we shoot for our goal of becoming Colorado’s premier band. Most of our gigs and festival appearances will be centered within a couple of hours of Denver, however our opportunities seem to be coming from many different places lately.
If you think this will work for you and want to be part of something that we think is pretty special, please give Charlie a call at 303-904-9614.
“Saving Juliet” can be seen and heard at http://www.savingjulietband.com as well as on YouTube.

INTERNATIONAL JAZZ COMPETITION LOOKING FOR THE WORLD’S GREATEST FEMALE JAZZ SINGER!
http://www.sarahvaughncompetition.com
Newark, New Jersey – (April 2, 2014) The third annual Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, the only international jazz vocal competition of its kind in the world, launched online yesterday at 5:00 p.m. EST for singers from around the world to compete for the SASSY Award, top honors in and a twenty-first century version of the amateur night at the Apollo Theater that helped launch the career of an aspiring teenager from Newark, Sarah “Sassy” Vaughan, more than seventy years ago. The first two years of the competition saw nearly 1,500 total song submissions and nearly one million votes casts online for contenders from around the globe. In 2014, NJPAC, JAZZ ROOTS, WBGO Jazz88.3FM, the Jazz Education Network (JEN) and Indaba Music are teaming up again to search for the next great jazz female vocalist.
“The Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Competition is an important event for the people that love our great American art form of jazz singing and for our growing jazz community,” said Janis Siegel of The Manhattan Transfer, who was one of the judges in last year’s competition. “It brings forth and nurtures true and exceptional talent with recognition and acceptance while honoring the legacy of one of the greatest American singers in history, Sarah ‘Sassy’ Vaughan.”
The Competition:
Beginning on Tuesday, April 1 at 5:00 p.m. EST, female vocalists from around the world can submit applications online at http://www.SarahVaughanCompetition.com. Five finalists will be flown to Newark, New Jersey to perform at the TD James Moody Democracy of Jazz Festival in NJPAC’s Victoria Theater on November 16, 2014 before a panel of judges comprised of some of the leading jazz vocalists today as well as others in the jazz and recording industry. Winners will receive cash prizes of up to $5,000 and the opportunity to perform on JAZZ ROOTS concerts across the country. The competition is open to solo female vocalists of all nationalities who are not signed to a major record label. Singers must submit audio clips online through an interactive platform powered by Indaba Music. The public can vote online to help select the finalists who will be announced on October 10.
Singers will be judged on vocal quality, musicality, technique, performance, individuality, artistic interpretation and ability to swing.
